A deep crimson red colour with a typical sour cherry and red fruit character with bramble notes. The palate has a supple, lithe character full of perfumed fruit and given depth by a mineral vein. Structure comes from the taut acidity and tannin structure.

Great elegance and structure. Lovely ripe fruit and mineral flavours with silky tannins. Will gain in complexity over the next few years. Gorgeous.

Mid ruby still youthful. Ever so slightly reductive and with lifted cherry fruit. Vibrant, compact and elegant with marzipan-like tannin. Fragrant and very young.

Deep crimson. Interesting sweet-sour red fruit nose with perfumed raspberry edge. Same intense perfumed palate. Almost sweet richness on the finish, but lovely acidic bite and stalky, almost bold tannin.

Tuscany Tuscany was revolutionised by a lowly table wine by the name of Sassicaia when in 1940 the decision was made to plant cabernet vines with one eye cast towards the illustrious Bordeaux. Renowned winemaker Antinori made the first public bottling of the now great Sassicaia in 1968, becoming world famous a few years later. Since the area as seen a uprising of cabernet vines and subsequent sibling merlot being planted. The region now has classified areas such as Bolgheri which must be a blend of Merlot, Cabernet and Sangiovese. As these wines have developed throughout the 20th century, flavours such as blackberries, vanilla, truffles became classic and the wines have become some of the world’s most sort after. These reds make the perfect match to the best cuisine, especially strong flavours of red meats and game.

Isole e Olena Paolo De Marchi’s vineyards, like those of Giovanni Manetti at Fontodi, are superbly tended. This, more than anything, yields wines of the quality that have kept them both ahead of the chasing pack for the past two decades. The name ‘Isole e Olena’ came about in the 1950s when two adjoining estates, ‘Isole’ and ‘Olena’, were purchased by the De Marchi family and combined to form one. The history of both estates dates back many hundreds of years, and the earliest documentation of the village of Olena goes as far back as the 12th Century. During the 1950s, the De Marchi family planted new specialised vineyards and expanded the cellars. The estate has been run by Paolo De Marchi since 1976. Over the years, Paolo has become a leading expert on Sangiovese and travels across the world talking and teaching about this variety. Depite the time these committments demand, he continues to makes the wine at Isole and is now investing a huge amount of energy, with the help of his elder son, Luca, in the old family estate in Piemonte, Proprieta Sperino. Isole e Olena is situated in the western part of Chianti Classico, just north of the village of Castellina. Its 45 hectares of vineyard are situated between 350-450 metres above sea level, and are planted primarily on galestro soil.
